About Kathy Flentge, OTR/L, DIR-FCD

Kathy is a developmentally-minded therapist with over 20 years of experience working with children and families.  Through working with infants, children, and teenagers in a variety of settings, Kathy brings knowledge and insight for both parents and professionals.

In starting Connecting Kids, Kathy’s desire is to provide education and understanding for caregivers and educators to have a greater sense of the impact that our individual neurobiology has on behavior and learning.  Trained as an occupational therapist with a focus on sensory processing and understanding emotion as a sensation, Kathy brings a unique perspective to guide the next steps towards success for a child you love or for a professional working in the field. Using the DIR Floortime frame of reference, Kathy is a strong advocate for relationship-based therapies, understanding individual differences, and using play as a therapeutic modality.

Kathy’s journey as a therapist started at Utica College of Syracuse University and since graduation she  has been “playing with a purpose” to support the development of countless children across her career in a variety of settings in New York, Ohio, and Illinois.  While the fun resides in the joy, giggles, and wonder of working with children, the passion is fierce to support greater education for ALL adults to look deeper and gain insight around the underlying influences of behavior and how our interactions can support positive outcomes.  Kathy has presented seminars and courses in both the US and in Italy.

As a parent on a journey herself, she brings practical experience and realistic conversations to support understanding.  As a life long learner with a growth mindset, she is honored to be come along side your journey and support the writing of your next chapter of personal or professional development.
